1. Smart TV Features

Overview of casting, streaming, and smart features on hospitality TVs. Each feature's availability depends on TV platform and OS version — see the platform matrices at the bottom of this section.

Google Cast

What it does	Guests cast content from their phone/tablet to the hotel TV — movies, photos, music, browser tabs. Works with 5,000+ Cast-enabled apps (YouTube, Spotify, Disney+, etc.).
How it works	Guest scans a QR code on the TV, selects their room. No login, no pairing — session is room-isolated and auto-clears at checkout.
Platforms	Samsung: Built-in on HU8000F (Tizen 9.0). Via firmware update on BU800 (Uniguest Hotel Hub). LG: Built-in on webOS 23+. Via firmware update on webOS 5 models (US670H, US770H, UR770H, STB-6500). STB: All InnCable STBs via Chromecast dongle (external hardware).
Config	ECP: ENABLE_GOOGLE_CAST. InnSmart token: INNSMART_GOOGLECAST_TOKEN. CMS: Casting widget must be active in layout.
Common issues	Phone and TV on different VLANs · QR code not showing (widget disabled) · Cast session not clearing (PMS checkout event missed)

Apple AirPlay

What it does	iOS/macOS screen mirroring and content streaming. Video, audio, photos, full screen mirror from iPhone, iPad, Mac.
How it works	Guest scans QR code with iPhone camera. Session is room-isolated, clears at checkout. No manual pairing.
Platforms	Samsung: HU8000F (Tizen 9.0) only. LG: All webOS 5.0+ Pro:Centric models. LG was first with hospitality AirPlay (2023). STB: Requires AirCast server (separate Linux service).
Config	Enabled via Pro:Centric (LG) or LYNK Cloud (Samsung). No ECP needed — platform-level feature.
Common issues	iPhone doesn't see TV (mDNS/Bonjour not crossing VLANs) · AirPlay icon missing (not enabled in TV management platform)

Netflix

What it does	Guest logs into personal Netflix on the hotel TV. Session is private, auto-clears at checkout.
How it works	Pre-installed app. Guest signs in with own credentials. PMS checkout triggers session wipe.
Platforms	Samsung: Tizen 5.0+ (AU800, BU800, CU700, HU8000F). LG: webOS 5.0+ (US660H and newer, UR770H marketed with Netflix). STB: Android Netflix app on all InnCable STBs.
Config	Requires Netflix hospitality license (per-property). ECP: INNSMART_NETFLIX_TOKEN. CMS: Netflix widget in layout.
Common issues	Token expired/missing · Session not clearing at checkout · "TV not supported" (wrong OS version)

YouTube

What it does	YouTube app on hotel TV. Browse, search, watch — or cast from phone via Google Cast.
Platforms	Samsung: Tizen 5.0+ (native app). LG: webOS 5.0+ (native app). STB: NewPipeG2/G3 (no Google account needed) or native YouTube (needs Google Play Services).
Config	InnSmart: youtube.leanback.v4. STB: NewPipe widget in layout. No per-property license.
Common issues	App crashes (clear cache) · Geo-restricted content · NewPipe broken (YouTube API changed, needs update)

Prime Video

What it does	Amazon Prime Video — personal login, auto-clear at checkout. New to hospitality in 2025.
Platforms	Samsung: HU8000F (Tizen 9.0) only. LG: Not yet on hospitality models. STB: Android Prime Video app.

IPTV / Channel List

What it does	Live TV channels over IP with EPG (Electronic Program Guide). Replaces coax/RF distribution.
Platforms	All — InnCable STBs, all InnSmart versions, WebApp. Core feature since day one.
Config	CMS: Channel List per location type. ECP: IPG_FTP_SERVER_URL. See IPG & Channels book.
Common issues	Channels missing (not uploaded for location type) · EPG stale (FTP unreachable) · Wrong channels (mapping mismatch)

Pro:Idiom DRM

What it does	Hardware content protection for premium channels (HBO, ESPN). Required by content providers in North America.
Platforms	Built into all Samsung and LG hospitality models (US/NA SKUs). InnCable V3+ STBs. Not on consumer TVs.
Config	None — hardware-level, handled at headend/signal level.

Note on LG Google Cast: LG expanded Google Cast to all webOS 5 Pro:Centric models (US670H, US770H, UR770H, STB-6500) via firmware update. LG is the first manufacturer to support both AirPlay and Google Cast simultaneously on hotel TVs.

4. InnCable Compatibility Matrix

For STB (InnCable) installations, the TV model matters only for serial control — power on/off, volume, input switching. All smart features run on the STB, not the TV.

5. Maintenance Notes

Updating this page

1. New TV model: Add to the relevant brand table in Section 2 or 3. Verify smart features against manufacturer specs.
2. New feature support: Update the feature matrix in Section 1 for the correct OS version.
3. InnCable compatibility: Add to the compatibility matrix in Section 4 after testing serial control on-site.
4. Google Cast / AirPlay updates: Samsung and LG are rolling out casting to older models via firmware — check manufacturer announcements quarterly.

Key distinctions

• InnCable (STB) — Smart features run on the Android STB. TV model only matters for serial control (power, volume, input).
• InnSmart — Features run natively on the TV. OS version determines what's available.
• Google Cast "via update" — Requires firmware update from manufacturer. Not automatic. Hotel must request/apply the update.
• "✗ Orsay" — Samsung's legacy pre-Tizen platform. No longer maintained. Plan migration to Tizen models.
